Biography

American dramatic coloratura soprano Marlena Brinkley unites bel canto elegance with verismo fire — a Bellini and Donizetti line, Verdian weight, and a fearless top. Based in Charlotte, North Carolina, she performs across the Carolinas and the Southeast in opera, concert, and oratorio.

She rose quickly into leading roles as a young artist, winning the South Carolina district of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and taking the state NATS competition four consecutive years. Her training at the University of South Carolina led to acclaimed performances in the title role of Lucia di Lammermoor and as Königin der Nacht in Die Zauberflöte, work that took her to Italy to perform Königin der Nacht on an international stage.

That early Mozart and bel canto foundation now supports a repertoire that spans Händel and the great Italian heroines — Donna Anna, Konstanze, Norma, Elvira, Anna Bolena, Leonora, and Violetta among them — with the coloratura agility and dramatic weight that define her sound.

As an oratorio and concert soprano soloist she has sung Händel's Messiah and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Requiem with the Aiken Choral Society. She looks forward to joining the Aiken Philharmonic for Mozart's Requiem and to further concert engagements in the 2026/27 season.
